The person behind the diary
Hi, I'm Lori. Welcome to my little corner of the internet. I started The Lori Diaries in 2013 because I wanted somewhere to put my thoughts, share the things I loved, and occasionally spend far too many words on something that probably could have been a short conversation. More than a decade later, I'm still doing exactly that. The subjects have changed, I've changed, and I suspect I'll change my mind about a few things I've written here. But that's rather the point of a diary, isn't it?
I've never been particularly good at choosing just one thing to be interested in.
I can spend an evening watching a film and wake up the next morning with an entire opinion about one conversation in it. I can visit a café and come home thinking more about the feeling of being there than what I ordered. And sometimes a passing remark, an ordinary day, or a question I can't quite answer will stay with me long enough to become a post.
I work in digital marketing, so you'll find a little of that world here, too. I enjoy the creative side of it, the problem-solving, and the fact that just when I think I've figured something out, there's usually something new to learn.
Then there are the other things: places I'd like to return to, beauty products I have strong feelings about, television characters I probably take too seriously, and all those little observations that don't fit neatly into a category.
I could try to give this blog a more specific identity, but I think I'd rather let it sound like me.
Some days I have a story to tell. Other days I just have a thought I can't leave alone. Both belong here.
Personal, but Not an Open Book
Despite the name, The Lori Diaries isn't a minute-by-minute account of my life.
I like writing honestly about what I think and how something makes me feel. I also like having a private life that stays private. Not every experience needs to become content, and not every person who crosses my path has agreed to become a character in a story on the internet.
So I'll tell you about the film that made me reconsider something, the city that surprised me, or the question I've been turning over in my head. I might even admit when I was completely wrong about something.
But some details are mine to keep.
I hope the writing still lets you get to know me. Not through everything that happens in my life, but through what I notice, what makes me laugh, what I care about, and the things I choose to write down.
A Diary That Keeps Growing
This blog has been with me through different versions of myself. Some of the older entries feel wonderfully familiar. Others make me smile because I can hear exactly who I was when I wrote them.
I don't mind that. I like having a place where my interests and opinions don't have to stay the same forever.
I've also been dreaming about creating a collection of physical diaries one day. There's something lovely about the idea of taking a project that began with words on a screen and turning it into something you can hold, write in, and make entirely your own.
That's a future chapter, though. The diaries aren't available yet, and I'm in no rush to pretend otherwise.
For now, this is where the stories live.
Thank you for finding your way here.
Maybe you've been reading since the early days. Maybe you've arrived through a film review, a travel story, or a late-night search that took an unexpected turn.
However you got here, I'm glad you did.
I hope you find something that makes you smile, something that feels familiar, or something you disagree with enough to keep thinking about it after you've closed the page. That's a pretty good reason to write, if you ask me.
xoxo,
Lori
